Teacher candidates will demonstrate knowledge of the subject matter as adopted by California State Standards and curriculum frameworks. Incorporate knowledge about students and learning goals to design, organize and develop a curriculum that facilitates student's understanding of subject matter and produce accommodations and/or modifications to provide students access to the curriculum. Teachers will collaborate and plan, design, implement and monitor effective instruction that will benefit all students, including the full range of English Learners. Beginning teachers will utilize various technologies and instructional materials to access curricula aligned to the common core standards. Teachers will incorporate technology into the classroom to develop digital literacy and real-world skills and help students be productive in the digital world.

Ed Specialist teacher candidates adapt, modify, accommodate and differentiate instruction with identified disabilities to develop appropriate goals and accommodations for student success in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE). Teachers should demonstrate knowledge of disabilities and their effects (learning, skills development, social-emotional development, mental health, and behavior) and how to access and use related services and supports to organize and support effective instruction. Teachers should demonstrate an understanding of atypical development with various disabilities and risk conditions, including resilience and protective factors and their implications for learning.

Model and develop digital literacy by using technology to engage students and support their learning, and promote digital citizenship, including respecting copyright law, understanding fair use guidelines and the use of Creative Commons license, and maintaining Internet security.
